the audacious altar
I think I’ve been creating intentional spaces long before I knew what they were. I used to arrange small corners on shelves, collections of found objects that caught my attention and quietly held meaning.
After completing my yoga teacher training, I built my first altar. It felt like a natural evolution of those earlier collections, sacred, yet a little self-indulgent. This altar was filled with items that spoke to me and me alone. The audacity of carving out a place in my home that existed purely for me was radical and healing.
For so long, I had lived for others. Everything I had, even my body, had been for others’ consumption. Creating that first altar marked the beginning of my healing journey.
Altars mean many different things to many different people. My hope is to share these sacred and intentional spaces, and the stories behind them, here.
